Hi! 🐾 My name is Karma. 🐶
I am looking for a Forever Family to take me home!
Please help me help get this rescue dog get adopted.
Together we can make this world a better place for her.
I'm a beautiful 3-4 year old Lab mix, weighing about 75 pounds. I'm mostly white with pretty tan speckles and spots. (We don't know what she's mixed with, possibly something like a Great Pyrenees.). I'm affectionate and playful. I'm a big, happy girl and will do best with experienced dog owners in a home without small children, cats or small dogs. I will sit for my food and am happy to gently take treats. I'm strong and active--I'd love to be an exercise/hiking companion. I get excited when I'm first taken out on a leash and pull more than I should, but with routine and reinforcement, I settle down and should improve quickly. I enjoy playing with my current foster-brother and grew up with a Lab-brother, so I'd like a playmate in my new home as well, but would do best with a dog who does not want to be the boss. Basically, I'm the kind of dog who's pretty confident because I'm large, so I approach other pets with curiosity and eagerness to play, but if they react negatively to me, I will respond in kind. I've always had a companion dog though, so I'd love to have a brother who is playful and easy going. Mostly, I'm just a big puppy who wants to play! I was house trained before I was taken to the animal shelter, but it's been a few months, so I may need some help to adjust to a new home and routine. I am good with kids, but I'd recommend a home with older kids just due to my size. Despite having been beloved pets, I and another family dog were surrendered to a county kill shelter when the family's circumstances changed. The shelter was full and they were at risk, so the Humane Society of Wilkes (HSOW pulled us into their foster program. My "brother," a purebred Lab, was adopted quickly, but I am still waiting for my forever home. I am heart worm negative, up-to-date on vaccines, and spayed. Feel free to contact her foster home if you have questions at blairhsow@gmail.com. A home with a large physically fenced-in yard is preferred. To apply to adopt Karma, please fill out an application here: https://humanesocietyofwilkes.org/adopt/application/ Take care to fill in all the required fields, use "NA" as needed. (In some listings, Karma is called Mazie. We didn't find out her original name until after we put her in the database. She responds best to Karma.) The HSOW does not transport or ship dogs, so interested adopters must be willing to come to northwestern NC to meet me. Thank you!
Karma is available through my friends at the Humane Society of Wilkes.
